First off, I don’t think this movie makes any sense. It’s like a potpourri of things that don’t go together. Here’s how it breaks down: Character from Tashan — script from Jigarthanda — jigarthanda inspired from 2006 South Korean movie ‘A Dirty Carnival’ — finally spiced up with Bollywood stupidity. There’s nothing so-called original so it ended as a mixed bag.

Talking about the film, It’s crude but it does provide laugh-out-loud moments & Akshay Kumar does a decent job overall as one of the main leads. It’s great to see him make the transition from patriotic films to comedy. Somehow Bachchhan Paandey blends two genres that Akshay seems to have mastered — action and comedy.

The film has a lot of characters: Panjak Tripathi, Sanjay Mishara, Kiti Sanon, Arshad Warsi, Jacqueline Fernandez, Prateik Babbar, Abhimanyu Singh. It takes time to navigate through them all & what they do. Out of the cast, it is only Warsi who stands out. His punch-lines are value for money. He is the real star. Sanon has great chemistry with Warsi. All of her scenes with Warsi are outstanding and really stand out more than any other scenes in the film. Fernandez is relegated to the backseat.

Overall the film is mediocre with a misplaced plot, overdosed stars and stale gags. Guess Bollywood masala is something else & the quota of remaking south films has not expired. One thing you will realize watching this film is, no number of gloss, glam and high-profile stars can substitute an engaging script. Even super expensive costumes and fancy locations won’t save a film if a gripping storyline is lacking.

The ideal choice, for now, is ‘Kashmir files’ still running successfully alongside Bachchhan Paandey.
