The film’s self-awareness, which helps to differentiate a superhero from a typical hero, is refreshing, and it defied my initial skepticism while watching “Hanu Man” — the last 30 minutes, with their profound explanation of ‘yuga’ and Hanuman’s role, left a lasting impression. The film’s respect for religious texts and a blend of devotional storytelling with superhero elements are commendable.
The film’s approach to the superhero genre is reminiscent of “Minnal Murali,” another groundbreaking Indian superhero film. Like “Minnal Murali,” “Hanu Man” successfully carves out a niche in a genre dominated by Western narratives.
However, the film has its challenges. Given the subject’s grandeur, the scope feels limited, and the villain’s reliance on science and technology, contrasted with the hero’s mythological powers, seems underwhelming.
While impressive, CGI and action sequences sometimes hit the mark. Despite these shortcomings, this is just the first installment of the movie. I am hopeful that there is more to see and explore. This movie’s positive aspects outweigh the negatives, so there are no complaints.
