Ride or Die — Brutal & Erotic Japanese Movie
First off I am not aware Japanese movie can be this brutal & erotic. Korean & Spanish movies have such content right? Anyway, this movie is likely the most memorable Netflix film. Director seems to like nacked skin so much that he forgot to cut it. Perhaps this film is intended to satiate the desires of those who have certain sexual fantasies.
Ride or Die is a film based on a Japanese manga about two sort-of-but-not-quite lesbian lovers who strive to get away from their troubles, which include but aren’t limited to murder. Director Ryuichi Hiroki adapts Ching Nakamura’s graphic novel Gunjo with all the violent sex and violence it allegedly demands, as well as the meandering 142-minute plot. It’s a tough decision for viewers, but it could be worth more.
The film shines on the cinematography, yes there are long take scenes & most of them are shaky but so far storytelling has been on point. The shaky scenes felt natural, perfectly matched with the tone of the movie. The relationship between two girls: Rei & Nane is portrayed as sweet, tender, chilly, affectionate, loving, immature & lusty.
The film’s cinematography shines; certainly, there are long takes, and most of them are shaky, but the storytelling has been excellent.. The shaky parts felt natural and matched the tone of the film wonderfully. Rei and Nane’s relationship is shown as charming, gentle, icy, affectionate, loving, immature, and passionate. One girl manipulates another to commit murder, while the other murders for the sake of sex. Later on, sex is referred to as love.
Are you lost here? Hear me out: Initially girl commits murder to have sex with the girl she is interested in. The girl already had a relationship with another girl but all of sudden she realized she was missing something and was swept away by the girl from high school, and now that sex feeling has transformed into love. (going breathless here ) Don’t bother, it’s complicated. At times, it offers gripping drama, at others, it’s shallow, clumsy. Some of the characters are introduced abruptly which doesn’t make any sense.
Each has a sequence where they sleep with their hands around the other’s throat; viewers aren’t sure if they’re spilling their nasty honest guts, joking morbidly, or just whining like goth teenagers. We expect them to squeeze while we watch them. BITCH, IT’S RIDE OR DIE. This Movie Kind of takes a dig at lesbians' & characterized them as toxic people, abused women as fragile beings that need to be rescued.
