RRR: Epic Period Drama, Rajamouli Delivers More Than What’s Expected Cinematic Adrenaline!

SS Rajamouli reminds me of an odd combination of Steven Spielberg (Dynamism), Alfred Hitchcock ( Suspense), and Michael Bay (Explosion). While I’m probably being a little generous with such high praise, I will say that the story was engrossing and the performances in the movie were some of the best I’ve ever seen, a cinematic adrenaline!!

Sometimes, the best way to express complex visuals and ideas is to use eye-catching and attention-grabbing elements. The way visuals & production design are set is no less than Spielberg’s screenplay. When I saw the scene where Bheem appears out of nowhere on top of a moving truck in order to rescue Malli I felt like something out of a Alfred Hitchcock, unexpected & surprising. The train scene explosion, the Motorcycle blast into a room full of TNT, and the building explosion makes me feel like I’m watching a Michael Bay movie. So cool! The train explosion however seems similar to the sequence from the movie named “The Lone Ranger”, absolutely bonkers.

There’s so much to say about this film but it can be boiled down with one point: It’s epic, it’s spectacular! Every movie has a story and plot tying every scene together; RRR’’ has more than that. Impressive action, gripping drama and heart pounding music — the technicalities of this film are perfectly balanced. There’s something there for everyone and it appeals to everyone regardless of age or gender. It just takes you for a ride from beginning to end — you have no choice but get along for the ride! Every little scene is planned out so well it feels like one big masterpiece because even if nothing seems connected at first half, you’ll soon find yourself going back over the film securing a greater appreciation for its perfection. Even the songs have a wider approach, they never felt rushed. RRRAJAMOULI goes above and beyond what is expected of a film; it was truly heart-thumping. I wonder how he does it so perfectly.

There are some moments so epic that deserve a whistle because they never get old. Think of The Ram introduction from the movie: That shot was not overly done, no over the top action rather it seemed like Ram lived that moment of chaos. It was something worth remembering. Just like Lijo Jose Pellissery’s trademark scene. He is a fire yet he has his emotional moments & vouches to deliver a promise given to his father (Ajay Devgn).

NTR on the other hand is super strong & fearless, the faceoff between Ram & Bheem ensured a wave Of ‘Seetis & Taalis’. it looks like an electric atmosphere that thrilled all of us who had come to see the movie in cinemas.

Talking about how the story plays out, it is refreshing to see a straightforward plot come together in such a fashion. Even though some of the decisions Rajamouli makes have you wondering where he could possibly be going with some of these scenes, I’ll admit that there is something to be said for being able to make almost anything work because his prowess when it comes to staging and using unique angles elevates each scene beyond what most would expect. For instance, despite not following up on the emotional ramifications in depth, you can’t help but sympathize greatly with these characters regardless due to his expert ability to get them across emotionally without even having to say much more than what is necessary for the most part!

The bromance between Ram Charan and Jr NTR drives the whole movie, and the audience can’t help but fall for these two charming actors who deliver stupendous performances in this film. An innovative use of fire and water as symbolic elements emphasizes a parallel to real-life situations. Heart Stealing.

The few shortcomings I noticed are on Hindi dubbed vocals, it seemed slightly out of sync sometimes. The voiceover is original but lip sync doesn’t really match most of the time. The original Telugu language version must have good lip sync.
