Snyder’s Army of Dead — Zombie Version of One of the Spartans From Zack Snyder’s 300
Zack Snyder is the name you keep hearing in 2021, since the release of the long-awaited “ Snyder Cut” justice league. Snyder saved the movie & received a lot of praise from people all across the world. Now after a while his other project, Army Of Dead debuts on Netflix.
If you recall 2004, ‘Dawn Of Dead’ was his directorial debut. During that time, he claims, the concept of an Army of Dead army was developed. It took Snyder 20 years to present his unadulterated vision as Netflix gave him complete creative control and the “Snyder Cut” of this movie. So what’s with Army Of Dead? Let’s take a dig into Snyder’s return to the Zombie universe.
To begin with, Army of the Dead is Snyder’s first original work in a decade, and it is not based on any previous material. The movie is set in Las Vegas! Zombie bloodletting does not start until an hour and seven minutes in. As We expect from Snyder it takes time for character introduction. Being a zombie film, you shouldn’t expect your favourite character will live. In fact in most zombie films there’s only one survivor. A typical zombie film concludes with that survivor becoming a zombie as well.
A swarm of undead has engulfed Las Vegas. Several people are quarantined, and you are not permitted to enter the area. This is a fantastic idea. Zombies are smart (called alpha), quick, and deadly. Anything could happen!! Nonetheless, we get a zombie tiger, gruesome.
This unique zombie approach along with Snyder’s trademark slow-motion and a strong sense of nihilistic dark comedy, serves the film well.. The narrative is quite basic but has a few twists, turns, and character betrayals down the line.
The zombie tiger, head split, loud gunfire, and the zombie leader who wears a cape and a helmet, making him look like a zombie version of one of the Spartans from Zack Snyder’s 300, provide some heavy-duty action and some truly classic moments. Snyder worked as director of photography in an unusual move, which he claims made it simpler to convey his visual approach.
The zombie movie is all about a fun experience less about the plot & it’s exactly that. Each character plays a significant role in this zombie apocalypse, which adds to the intrigue. Dave Bautista gave a phenomenal performance in the movie, he is quite good in the emotionally driven story. Bautista, in my opinion, executes an emotional role better than any other WWE hero ( John Cena, Dwayne Johnson). To tell you, he reportedly turned down a supporting role offered by his pal James Gunn in The Suicide Squad, to play in Snyder’s Army of Dead because it was a lead role. It’s evident that he made the proper decision after viewing his performance here.
Actress from Indian origin Huma Qureshi, also plays a role in this zombie heist
